Dr. Annalisa Molini is an associate professor in the Water and Environmental Engineering Program. Her research mainly focuses the connections between climate change and water resource availability, hydro-climatology, and the stochastic modeling of hydrological and environmental processes, as well as the study of extreme events such as severe droughts and flash floods.

Dr. Molini received her Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Genova (Italy) with a major in Physics of Atmosphere and Oceanography, and her PhD in Methods for Environmental Monitoring from the University of Basilicata (Italy) with a research focus on the stochastic modeling of precipitation.

Prior to joining Masdar Institute, she was a research associate at Duke University, in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, with a joint appointment at the Nicholas School of the Environment, a visiting scholar at the Ralph M. Parsons Laboratory of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as part of the MIT Technology and Development Program, and data manager and analyst in the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Field Inter-comparison of Rainfall Intensity Gauges, at the Italian Air-force Meteorological Center of Vigna di Valle, Rome, Italy.

Research Interests

Dr. Molini’s research interests span a number of diverse areas at the interface between climate sciences and hydrology, including hydrometeorology, hydro-climatology and the stochastic modeling of hydrological and environmental processes under climate change and climate variability in general. A common trait of her research trajectory is represented by the search for a deeper understanding of the connections between climate dynamics and water resources availability through a multi-scale and multidisciplinary approach.
