Kevin Garvey is employed at Masdar Institute as a Lecturer, where he teaches Academic Writing for Graduate Students and the Presentation of Academic Research.

He studied Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland; and holds both B.A. and M.A. (Renaissance and Modern English Literature) from Trinity College, University of Dublin, as well as an M.A. in Applied Linguistics (TESOL) from University of Surrey, UK.

Prior to joining Masdar Institute faculty he taught at the U.A.E. G.H.Q. Air Force Pilot Cadet Technical College, at the U.A.E. Directorate of Military Intelligence and Security, and at the Higher Colleges of Technology (Abu Dhabi) working with students of General Education, e-Commerce, Information Technology, Health Sciences and Applied Media Studies from Foundation to Degree level, authoring the Academic Writing and Research courses there for degree programs.

Kevin’s academic interests are in: positive psychology and student motivation/achievement; pedagogical and technological choices implicit in Web 2.0; the history, evolution and presentation of scientific thought from classical times to date; the logical, linguistic and rhetorical aspects of structuring written argument; testing, assessment and evaluation; technical writing.

Research Interest/Research Projects
  • He has specialized in Written Genres and Scientific English postgraduate studies, with a thesis dissertation on the educational implications of the growth of the internet, and more recently, postgraduate studies in Online Education and Training with the Institute of Education, University of London – focusing on Web Based Instruction and Knowledge Management.
  • Kevin completed The Chair Academy of Leadership Training and Development program (Arizona, USA 2002-03). Since then he has designed and delivered Teambuilding and Leaderships workshops to over 1500 faculty, undergraduate and graduate students; with focus on team performance, learning and behavioral styles, conflict management and strategic organizational planning.
